Aaron and Ema's October Prayer Letter

Dear Praying Friends,

God has given us encouragement from seeing some of the fruit of past internships.  For the new staff training, and helping to lead the domestic interns we were joined by Jen Chi Lee.  We first met her when she came to Manila in 2004 as a college student as part of the internship.  After graduation she joined the 2-year domestic internship and returned to Manila as a part of that program.  Recently she joined Servant Partners staff helping to lead the domestic internship.  Long-term she is hoping to minister among the urban poor in South Africa.  It was great to have her with us, and to see how she has grown spiritually for the past few years.

The short mission exposure of the 14 domestic interns was a tiring, yet great time of helping them to see the realities of urban poor life, and how God is working among the urban poor in Manila.  Most of the time was spent in Botocan, with families or as a team.  Their work project was with Ate Cora's family, one of the families who were demolished in the Balic-Balic demolition.  They moved just outside of Manila in a new squatter community that is still very rural.  We spent the day carrying rocks to be used to level the ground so that they can pour cement for the foundation of their house.  Ate Cora's family hopes to reach out to the new community that they are now in and eventually plant a church.

The semester at ATS has recently ended, and now it is just grading papers.  The end of the semester was a bit frustrating since 100% of my students turned in their final paper late.  I spoke to the dean after the class, and he encouraged me to make sure that the students know how much late papers will hurt their final grade.  Other than dealing with students who have poor time management, I am really enjoying my time teaching in a seminary.  Some of my students have very interesting ministries, such as Kuya Louie who is retired and now does a ministry with homeless youth with homosexual tendencies.  Many street children are sexually abused resulting in homeless youth and grown-ups with sexual issues that need Jesus to heal them in that area.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for the people of Balic-Balic as they face life after the demolition.
  • Pray for our adjustment to our new home in Botocan.
  • Pray for the church planting effort in Botocan.
  • Pray that God would help us to build relationships in our new community.
  • Pray that we would have discernment in knowing whom we should invest in for discipleship and leadership development.
  • Pray for the children's Bible club that we are hoping to get started this October.
  • Pray for wisdom as we seek to raise a baby in a squatter community, and for Zach's health.
  • Pray for Daniel as he leaves Manila on October 8.
Satisfied In Christ
