Could someone please give me the basics of sport card collecting?
I need help on sport card collecting. I want to start doing it as a hobby, but I wouldn't mind doing it as an investment as well. What brands should I buy? I want quality cards that look nice. I want rookies. I guess what I'm really asking in this question is for somebody to give me the basics of sport card collecting.
*Just out of curiosity- What are the most popular sport to collect cards. Baseball? Football? Basketball? Hockey? Please put them in order for me!

For the Basics.. Get a good pair of "white gloves" and some card protectors (don't go cheap on the protectors)...
NEVER touch the cards with your bare hands!!! The oils and things on your hands will ruin a card after a few years even if you have freshly washed your hands before you touch one...
Cards that have never been touched by human hands are worth more than those that have.. (they usually come pre-packaged inside a card protector)...
Rookie cards are one of the best investments if you can get them early enough in the players career...
Even if you just buy packages of cards and never open them it can be a good investment after 10 or 15 years because the number of collectors is continuously growing...
Invest some time into searching the web for card sales to find out how much cards are currently selling for.. also.. you may want to purchase a card buyers guide someplace.. then, if you see a truely good bargain on a card.. you will know about it and you can invest more wisely...
Keep your cards out of the light, don't display them on your living room wall where the sunlight will fade them.. protect your investment inside collector books or some other protection...
Personally (I'm not a collector) I think more people collect Baseball cards because they have been around longer.. but you may want to branch out into the lesser known sports because the potential number of new collectors is much higher...
Collect what YOU like, it will make the research, history, and collecting more fun.
