Qum Qara – Comes from the Hebrew for “arise and cry out.”  This was the command from God to the prophet Jonah to get up (arise) and preach the Word of the Lord to the city of Nineveh.  As we all know Jonah did not want to follow the divine instruction – but in the end he did and Nineveh repented.  After growing up in the church and spending 11 years on full time staff, I have come to the conclusion that the church in America is in dire need of preachers who will “arise and cry out.” 

The American church has been overwhelmed by the current trends of church growth models including “the seeker friendly model” and the “purpose driven model.”  These models of church growth almost without exception do away with expository preaching in favor of user-friendly, seeker-friendly, sugar stick sermonettes which tickle ears and entertain the unredeemed.  As a result the church has been weakened from malnutrition – we need preachers who will once again “arise and cry out.”  We need preachers who will return to Biblical, expository preaching.

The problem is this – many of today’s preachers who were trained in Seminaries which were far too influenced by the church growth movement never learned how to prepare for and deliver a true expository message.  This is the heart of Qum Qara Ministries – to help those who feel unqualified and untrained in the preparation of expository sermons but whose heart desire is to “arise and cry out.”

I do not claim to be an expert in expository preaching.  In fact, I am very much a student.  However, as I learn and gather resources which help me to “arise and cry out” it is my desire to point others to the best people, best writers, best preachers and best resources.  So the mission of Qum Qara Ministires is to help preachers who know they should be preaching the Word of God in an expository style, but either lack the know how – or just want to improve their skills.

Qum Qara ministries will provide book recommendations, book reviews, examples of sermons and website links to ministries that value Biblical Expository preaching.
