"BASEBALL CARDS " Can anyone tell me how to go about organizing and possibly selling baseball cards
I have inherited a whole lot of baseball cards most in very good condition I just dont know how to organize them properly and how I would go about finding out the values on some of them if not most of them. I know I have a lot of rookie cards and alot of old cards some one please guide me in the right direction so I dont get taken advantage of...
I am an ebay power seller specializing in sports cards. The best way to organize your cards is numerically by year. In other words get all of a given year together then put them in number order by the number on the back of the card.
It is a VERY good idea to root around on ebay and see what cards similar to yours are selling for as that gives you a very accurate idea of what things are REALLY selling for as opposed to a price guide.
Unfortunately it is my experience that people are so afraid of being taken advantage of that they overestimate the worth on their cards, especially if they're not the original collector.
You say there are a lot of old cards, but what constitutes old in your book? 60's, 50's, older? Also you say Very Good condition, but that is actually a technical term in card collecting and isn't really great condition cards grade from poor to Mint and VG is about the midway point between the two.
The big think is to find out exactly what you have, then research them (either through ebay, or cards shows where you can look for dealers selling cards similar to yours in a competitive market place) Then realize if you sell to a dealer they are going to HAVE to pay you UNDER market value for your cards as they have to resell them and make a profit.
If this bothers you (as it does many people) ebay may be the best way to go, just make sure if you do list there you give as much info as possible so you don't short change yourself.
