Fantasy Football Quarterback?
I have Matt Ryan [Falcons] and Matt Schaub [Texans] on my roster for fantasy football. Who should I start? Would Ryan get me more points or would Schaub get me more point? BEST ANSWER GETS 10 POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay I ran the numbers from last season and here is the way I see it. comparing weapon to weapon: Andre Johnson is a better receiver to Roddy White. Kevin Walter is a better receiver to Michael Jenkins. Tony Gonzalez is a better receiving Tight End to Owen Daniels. Finally, while Michael Turner is the better running back, both are big enough threats to open up the passing game and Steve Slaton caught nearly 400 yards and one TD last year. Turner caught 6 catches for 41 total yards.
In other words, Matt Schaub has the better targets overall for throwing. He also, according to ultimateffstrategy has the better offensive line meaning more protection and longer which means less rushed interceptions, less sacks, and more time in the pocket theorically. Next there is the argument of talent and experience. Matt Ryan has more talent, no doubt about it but this is only his second year. Derek Anderson was a stud two years back and now the Browns can't figure out who is worse him or Quinn. Matt Schaub has consistency (hence the number of 300 yard games between the two. Schaub's higher).
Finally there is the opponent week 1. Both are at home so the crowd isn't the "twelfth" man so to speak. Atlanta is against Miami and Houston is against the Jets. According to most fantasy football drafts, the Jets are considered the better defense (when scoring is based on INTs, FUM, SACKS, and Def TDs). However Miami is currently being ranked higher by other experts and are only separated by plus or minus five picks on average. Basically, The will provide about the same challenge.
I say you start Schaub week 1. If Ryan shows that he can maintain his form from last year, then throw him into the mix and play based on matchups because Ryan did throw more yards over last season. You have a really good situation of rather than having one starter and a backup, you have two QBs that you can safely start either one and expect the same results. It's going to help you out a ton week to week.
